Happy New Year

This is a detail from an unfinished bigger picture. It’s a pretty accurate self portrait.

And this is a painting I finished about two weeks ago of my beautiful friend Pascale Hutton.

Christmas rush

December came and I have procrastinated and now I’m behind in what I wanted to get done before the end of the year. There’s still time though. I can do it.

Great-grandmother

One more painting after this and then I’m free of commissions and I can work on whatever I want. It’s been two months now since I’ve done a painting for myself. I really like this painting. I did a good job if I say so myself.

August

In this portrait I didn’t let the watercolor dry all the way between layers so I think this looks more like a watercolor painting that some of my other paintings.  I fearfully approach an empty page, I am afraid again after I finished drawing before I start painting and I am most afraid when I’m almost done, but I have some details left to do. I’m trying to let go and just go for it and that is what I did here.

Two more commissioned paintings

At some point, when the family painting was almost done, I needed to move the painting, but somehow I did it while still holding a blue permanent marker I had just been using. The mark is there, but one has to know where to look for it, to find it. I tried to dissolve as much as possible with rubbing alcohol and then I painted over.

Girl with a Guitar

This is another commission. Even though I find it scary to paint for someone else, because I push myself to do a good job, I think I learn the most doing this.
